Natural world: I have decided to chosen the natural world theme for my end of year 10 final piece. I have chosen this because I think that nature has many different things that you can capture through photographs. Nature has many different aspects from insects to water falls and trees. I want to capture many of these aspects of nature in this project.
I like the way that these photographers capture nature in there photographs in differnt ways.

My photographs
Letha Wilson,
Letha Wilsons photography is very colourful and textured. In her work she brings together photography of nature and architecture. often she will use colleges. i think the contrast of the colours in her two pictures makes each part of the photogrpah stand out vividly. she uses many different techniques in minipulating her images and refining them for example cutting them, folding them and adding extra texture to the image. she describes her work at 'trial and error'.
for this outcome I printed out 3 images I had previously taken and cut them up and regard the images to look like this. i like the compotion of these images and the colours because even though the images are different they fade together. the image has complimentary colours for example the orange in the outer photograph and the sunset in the middle photograph compliment each other.
PHOTOGRAMS
Brion Nuda Rosch
Brion Nuda Rosch images are really interestng because he takes normal photographs and blocks out parts or changes parts using colourful sections. I think that this creates more depth to the photogrpahs. i think these images would be interesting to re-create with my own photogrpahs.
PHOTOSHOP EXPERIMENTATION:
process; i used photographs i had already taken and used photoshop to edited the image. i used the landscape picture of the green leaves as the background then put the second image on top, i then lower the percentage of opacity in the image so it creacted a layering effect. The tears in the lower part of the photo were too bold i thought so faded that part out leave jus the outline of them. this experiment was inspired by brion nuda rosch,
PHOTOGRAPHS I USED:
using photoshop i experimented with an image i had taken previous. i think it really changes the image using colour. the colours on the last image contrasts with each other and makes the image a bit destorted to look at. I think next time i should layer them on top of each other. i like the way the textures of the plant look next to each other. the orginal image is in the middle i have set it out like this so it contrasts with the ones that have been edited in photoshop.
I had to play around with photoshop because i haven't used it a lot before with out help or guidance. i coloured and cropped the images and then placed them on top of the background layer. i am now more confident to use photoshop now however i am going to use a range of techniques to experiment with photography of the natural world. using photoshop i used a landscape photograph i had taken previously for the background i then layered that same photograph and then placed the blue image on top of the 2nd layer. i had editied this image before and cropped it. i then made it density 60%.. i decided to add two reflecting each other.
THE OUTCOME:
i decided to use the same image for this photograph and i didn't change the opacity of the image i kept it the same jus changed movement of the image with the layers. i changed the colour on two of the layers and left the rest as the original colour.
This is my favourite image of Brion Nuda Rosch. i think the colours compose well together. The edit of the photo is soft. the backgound of the image is a landscape. the background is plain and basic, soft tone grey and black colours. then the shapesn around nthe background are still a sft colour but slightly brighter. the space in the photograph is fairly spaced out. minnimalisme. the image looks li8ke its taken from a heigbht, maybe on a mountain. picture of nature like this are very peaecful to me. not nalotn os goingn on, just natural life. I used Brion Nuda Rosch work for inspiration for my photoshop experiments. when using photoshop I wanted to create the same kind of collages as this artists I experimented a bit by making parts of the image opac instead of the fixed image that the artists has in his photographs. I have used fixed images for some of them however I used the same image but coloured and layered them. I like the effect of this.
OUTCOME:
In this experiment I have used photoshop to create outcomes and I also printed out my images and cut sections of them out and stuck them together. the techniques I have used has very different effects on photographs. The photographs that have been edited on photoshop have faded sections in them where as printing images out you obviously can't acheive this effect.
Jem Southam
his images are vintage. i think when photographs ared taken like this more work is put into them so the pictures turn out good because they are thought about before. the secerys of his images are visually beatufuil. the compostion of them are good. the vintage camera creates a grain effect on the images.
i really like this image because it shows contrast between the clear sea and the clifs. the sceneary is really nice and there is nothing else around. the colours of the sea and the sky blends in this creates more space in the image.
OUTCOME:
Anna Alkins
i think her images are unique and interesting. cynotypes are interesting to develope. Anna alkins used many different plants in her photograph such as algae, fern e.ct. and also feathers. these onjects have fine deatails so they worked well in photogrpahs that are produced as cyanotypes. most of her photographs were relitavley close up and detailes were very fine and precise. her photogrpahy catures these objects as something more then what they seen by the naked eye. her photographs are inspired by science.
Moholy nagy
his photographs are very Sharpe and detailed. the composition of all image are really good. the photograph of the pear captures the pear centre of the image, this photograph is really smooth and in even though it is a photogram you can still see a lot of detail of the pear in this photograph e.g. the stem.
My experiment
resources i used
I collected resources from outside then ordered them on photographic paper and to produce the image used the enlarger for the first one i exposed it for 10 seconds.
Stephan gill
The layers in his photographs create a different perspective of the natural world. his image with the ruler and bugs it really interesting because the way the image is capture at this angle make the bugs look big, the trees in the background also exaggerates the size of the bug, however the contrast of the ruler next to the bug then contradicts this. the composition of the image is also good because the trees in the background are in the middle but the ruler llayered is slightly off centred. I also like the image of the woman in the background because its un focused and this creates an effect of unknowing but with still seeing some characteristics of the woman. the background of this image is also quite detailed. his images are really unique.
first experiment
The flowers I had used in previous experiments were left in my folder for 2 weeks until I discovered them again and decided to photograph them. The flower in the second image looks more complex. The background of both of the photographs are photograms I had made of the flowers before, with inspiration of photographer Moholy nagy. I thought that the flowers would have a good contrast with the photograms in the background. Initially the experiment was just to used the flowers and other objects I had found outside as something to photograph. There is also a contrast between the first image of the flower and the bright colours to the image when the flowers were dying and the colours fading out (of the same flower alive and dying) and the flowers and black and white background of the photograms. In the first image the light is naturally diffused witch creates a softer image. The first image was taken on the camera and the second one was taken on my phone using flash because i liked the way the image looked taken on my phone instead of a camera . To take the second picture I used my phone with the flash so the light in the second image is more focused on the centre of the flower this shows a lot of detail of the flower where as in the first image the focus is softer. Using flash for the second image also creates more of a depth to the image.
These two images were going to be my final piece but when i printed them the quality of the images were not amazing so changed the reslultion of the images to 400 and printed them however they still didn't looked as good as i wanted my final piece to look. I explored different ways to present these images. Firstly I used photoshop to edit colours of the images but I still wasnt happy with the images. After I cut the main part (the flower) of the first image i had photographed out and with the second image i printed I cut out strips of the image simmilar to the experimenting i had done before responding to Brion Nuda Rosch's work. i used the flower i had cut out as a template and used it to cut the second image that i had cut into strips as. The outcome:
For my final piece I used the first image and the same flowers that i had orginally used in the beggining to take these photographs witch were really decayed, on the scanner and moved around the image. I really like
I was scanning the first image and I then opened the scanner accidently. For the second image i moved the image on the scanner to create this effect, theres not much difference from the orginal image and this one because the orginal image is already distorted because of the collage effect however moving the image on the scanner creates more dimension to the image. Afterwards I editied this image to create the last image jus by adding white to the corners to create a more finished look.
After i had done this i wanted to play with the orginal images some more. i printed them smaller so that the quality of the images were still good. Then for the first image i used two black pens and drew random dots on the dominant flower. For the second image i used a small paint brush and white paint to draw the dots for this photograph I decided to draw them even more dots because the second photo is darker and the white contrasted well with the photograph. Inspiration for this came from Yayoi Kusama, an artist that uses pokadots. Initially she wasnt an artist i had reserched for this project but i really like her photographs and i was keen to explore the idea into my work
Yayoi Kusama's work:
Outcome:
Final piece
Karl Blossfeldt
Karl Blossfeldt photographs plants very close up, his images have extremely fine details. he photographs are of flowers, buds and branched stems. these photographs are taken from a head on perspective.
Final piece
An artist I have researched in this project is Brion Nuda Rosch. I was looking on Pinterest with the idea of natural world and I saw his photographs and they interested me. I like the contrast in his photographs and I experimented a lot with the idea of his collage pieces. I experimented with the collages in many ways e.g. photoshop, printing images out. Both of these techniques have different effects. I hadn't used photoshop before so it took me a while to produce an outcome but I like the effect it has on the image. The other way I developed images is by printing the images out, cutting them into steps and sticking them into small stripes and putting them together. The
